Minecraft Server Down or Not Working, Issue Acknowledged

New updates are added at the bottom of this story…….

The original story (published January 18, 2022) follows:

Minecraft is one of the most popular video games of all time, joining Mario and Tetris. Developed by Mojang Studios and released in November 2011, Minecraft has millions of players to date.

All thanks to the endless procedurally generated 2D world, you never run out of space or resources to collect. However, in recent days, players have encountered several bugs and issues.

Just a few days ago, players complained about boats disappearing when descending while others said they were getting the error “Internal exception: java.io.ioexception”.

And as if that weren’t enough, players are now saying they’re Impossible to connect to game servers. Many have reported that Minecraft servers are currently down on Downdetector.com.

While some say they get a “We couldn’t validate your access, please try logging in again.” message, others say they get a Authentification error.

Players have tried restarting the game, but that doesn’t help. You can clearly see the increase in reports over the past few hours on Downdetector in the image below.

Here’s what some of the complainants have to say.

Impossible to connect
When I try to log in to the site, it says “We could not validate your access, please try to log in again. ‘, but it doesn’t work. Are the servers down or what?

hey @MojangSupport, are the servers having issues? I’m trying to play modded Minecraft on a server but was told that the auth servers were down for maintenance and now I’m getting a force close error, but my other friends (not in the same country as me) can play well.

Luckily, Mojang Status shed some light on the matter and confirmed the fact that the Minecraft servers are currently down for maintenance.

We are running an update behind the scenes that impacts some of our services for Minecraft: Java Edition. Multiplayer is affected. – Ined

However, they did not share any timeline on when the servers will be back up and running. At first glance, it looks like Minecraft players will have to wait a few more hours before they can log in.

We hope that Mojang Studios will notify Minecraft players before taking the game offline so that they can complete their activities before the servers go down.

Nonetheless, we’ll be keeping an eye on the issue and updating this space as needed, so stay tuned.

Update 1 (January 19)

09:29 (IST): Mojang status on Twitter said their maintenance update is complete and services are healing. However, they still haven’t confirmed when services will be fully restored.
