A jaw-dropping turn of events on July 28 saw BGMI removed from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. This was a huge shock to the entire Indian gaming community as the game reached new milestones in terms of downloads as well as viewership in esports tournaments and scrims.
Google and Apple removed the game following orders from the Indian government. However, as many popular streamers have moved on to other games, many gamers were curious if the game could still be played.
BGMI’s servers are still working even after the game was removed from the country’s virtual stores
Battlegrounds Mobile India became one of the most popular action games in the Indian gaming market before being delisted from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The incident has dampened the future of esports in the country.
It’s been over a week since the initial announcement, and several statements from Krafton and BGMI influencers (including MEITY) have given gamers a glimmer of hope. Shockingly enough, however, Android and iOS users who have the game installed on their devices can still log in and play the game without any hurdles.
This is because the game’s servers are still active. It also paved the way for several high profile tournaments and scrims to be held online. Various popular streamers like Dynamo and NinjaJOD were also seen streaming the game.
Gamers and fans playing the game are waiting for an official statement from MEITY regarding the issue.
However, the delisting of the BR title has put an abrupt end to in-game UC purchases. Users are not allowed to spend any money on the game until further notice. Still, those who already have UC stored in their account can still spend it on various cosmetics and other items.
Previously, when PUBG Mobile was banned in India, a notice was issued by the Indian government stating that the game is banned in the country. However, the servers were only taken down a few months after the ban. However, this time around, the government has yet to officially announce a ban on the game. The game has only been removed from virtual stores, and it remains to be seen exactly how the situation develops.
Players will just have to wait to find out what happens. The game could soon make a comeback or be completely banned in the country.
Statement from Krafton following the removal of BGMI from the Play Store and App Store
Krafton Inc. is working hard to make the popular Battle Royale title accessible to Indian users once again. Krafton India CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn recently remarked on the company’s commitment to growing India’s sports and gaming ecosystem.
Thanking users for their continued love and support, he mentioned that Krafton will focus on establishing communication and resolving the issue as soon as possible.
Sohn asked BGMI gamers and fans to remain patient and await further notice from the company.
It seems even Krafton hasn’t fully acknowledged the fact that the game is permanently banned, only that it’s been pulled from stores.
