Delhi Records 2,716 New COVID Cases in 24 Hours; the positivity rate climbs to 3.64%


Delhi reported 2,716 new COVID cases on Saturday, 51% more than yesterday’s tally, and the largest single-day increase since May 21. And with that, the cumulative total has reached 14,50,972 while there are currently 6,360 active cases, the city’s health department figures showed.

The positivity rate climbed to 3.64%.

Delhi also recorded 765 recoveries in one day, bringing the total recoveries to 14-19,459. The city today reported one death from the coronavirus infection. The case fatality rate is 1.73%.

There have been 74,622 tests performed in the past twenty-four hours.

The daily number of cases on Saturday broke the 2,000 mark after a gap of more than seven months, as 2,716 new cases were registered with an increased positivity rate of 3.64%, according to the latest health bulletin.

The increase is the highest since May 21, when 3,009 cases were recorded with a positivity rate of 4.76%, while 252 deaths were also reported on that day.

The huge spike in new cases over the past few days in Delhi is recorded amid a significant increase in cases of new Omicron variant of Covid in the city.

New Delhi reported 1,796 new cases of Covid on Friday as the number of cases increased in recent days.

After the New Year’s celebrations, India reported a whopping 22,775 new cases, with 8,949 recoveries and 406 deaths in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Saturday. Currently, the number of active cases in the country stands at 1,04781, while the recovery rate is currently 98.32%.
